Toyota has welcomed a crossover SUV to their ever-growing line-up – the new Yaris Cross and we are loving it!
It wasn’t totally smooth sailing for Toyota when it came to the big model reveal. They intended to unveil the Yaris Cross at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show however, it was unfortunately cancelled, and the reveal ended up smaller than Toyota would have probably liked. Yet fans waited in anticipation and got first glimpse of the model when photos and specifications were posted early 2020 and the wait was worth it.
Here’s 5 things we love about the new Toyota Yaris Cross.
Hybrid
It’s only right that we begin with the most eco-friendly feature of them all – the hybrid powertrain.
With over 23 years of impressive hybrid leadership, we’re delighted to see the supermini crossover SUV Yaris Cross offers a self-charging combination of electric power and petrol driving– the best of both worlds. Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid electric technology is available across the entire Yaris Cross range and has excellent average CO2 emissions of 100-114g/km.
So, let’s round this up, the 1.5 litre hybrid Yaris Cross gives you reduced carbon emissions. Tick. Makes a difference to the planet. Tick. And saves you fuel and money. Tick!
Up next, All-Wheel Drive.
All-Wheel Drive system (AWD-i)
It’s not every day there’s the option of a Four-Wheel Drive in a car of similar size. But in this case, the All-New Yaris Cross not only looks capable but is very capable. It is the only compact hybrid SUV to offer Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system (AWD-i). And, thanks to its hybrid engine, an efficient one at that.
The electric ‘Intelligent All-Wheel Drive’ system operates in front wheel drive most of the time, sending drive to the rear wheels only when tractional needs really require it to. For example, slippery roads and snow. The AWD-i version gets a more sophisticated double-wishbone rear suspension set-up too.
All of this is available on the Dynamic and Premiere Edition spec.
Technology
The Yaris Cross is one of the first to offer wireless smartphone connectivity through Toyota Smart Connect. Where previously you didn’t get the choice, now you can connect wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A seamless and powerful 9”, high-definition touch screen display gives you more intuitive operations and new features to play with. The future is in the air. Over-the-air-software and service updates ensure Toyota Smart Connect is always up-to-date and is never an inconvenience to the driver.
A cool upcoming feature – Share to Car – is planned for future systems updates. It will enable owners to plan journeys and share to their Yaris Cross before even stepping foot inside the car.
Toyota Safety Sense
Safety. A huge factor that takes precedence when choosing your next car and Toyota gets it right yet again. I mean it’s no surprise really, they’ve been providing class-leading levels of safety for years.
Toyota Safety Sense comes as standard across all versions. If you’re not familiar with Toyota Safety Sense, it’s an abundance of driver assistance technologies that will keep you and other road users ultra-safe. For example, Road Sign Assist (RSA) works by displaying the current speed limit in the area or any overtaking restrictions. You’ll be alerted by the system if you start to move out with the current speed restrictions.
Meanwhile, Automatic High Beam (AHB) optimises your driving visibility in the evenings and can automatically switch between high and low beam thanks to a camera identifying oncoming vehicles and leading traffic. Adaptive Cruise Control Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Pre-Collision System (PCS) are all included in the pack too.
What’s more, we’ve counted 35 standard safety equipment or features included with the mid-spec Toyota Yaris Cross ‘Design’. Nice!
Space
The Yaris Cross fills an important gap in Toyota’s Crossover line-up, sitting just below the C-HR. At 4180mm width it’s around 200mm longer shorter than the C-HR and with 1595mm height it comes with space inside in its plenty. You’ve got 397 litres of boot space with a boot floor that can split 60:40 giving you space to transport bulkier items without having to drop the entire floor. It’s ready to go wherever life takes you.
I think we can safely say the All-New Yaris Cross Hybrid has not disappointed. It has impressed on performance, safety, space, and technology and we’re looking forward to the Yaris Cross hitting our roads and seeing it in the flesh in the coming months.
At Intelligent Car Leasing, we’re driving the electric revolution, so make a difference to your pocket and the planet simultaneously with a Toyota Yaris Cross lease. Available from just £217.16 per month.
