Interest in electric cars (EVs) is growing fast, making them an increasingly tempting car leasing proposition. Moreover, with a raft of new EVs offering a greater and more diverse choice than ever, there’s never been a better time to consider leasing a new electric car.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

The super-distinctive Hyundai Ioniq 5 looks like no other large family crossover on sale. We love the ‘modern retro’ styling, and the open plan interior is upmarket and very comfortable. The reigning World Car of the Year award-winner, Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 with 58kWh or 77.4kWh battery options, the latter boasting a range of up to 315 miles. And if you use ultra-fast 350kW rapid chargers, it will charge from 10-80% in a mere 18 minutes. It’s easy to see why it’s becoming such a popular EV to lease.

MG4 EV

Range: Up to 281 miles

The new MG4 EV is a landmark car for this famous British brand. Now owned by Chinese giant SAIC, the MG4 EV is a good-looking EV with a well-equipped interior and decent family hatch space. You can lease it with either a 51kWh or 64kW battery, with the latter offering a range of up to 281 miles and a rapid-charge speed of up to 135kW. GWM Ora Funky Cat

Range: Up to 193 miles
Rapid charge speed: 80kW

Great Wall Motor, or GWM, is a new Chinese car brand in the UK. Its first car is the Ora Funky Cat, a distinctive name for a capable and affordable small, family five-door. The launch version comes in a very high spec, and its retro-style lines and high-end interior are certain to impress. The 48kWh battery gives a range of 193 miles and charging from 15-80% will take around 40 minutes. Expect leasing rates to be very competitive indeed.

 

Kia EV6

Range: Up to 328 miles
Rapid charge speed: 350kW

The multi-award-winning Kia EV6 is the electric car that’s helping the company take on premium brands such as Audi and BMW. The design is sleek and stylish, and the interior has a cool, contemporary appearance. It feels sporty to drive as well, and it’s certainly a quiet and composed car in which to cover high miles. Fittingly, the top-spec 77.4kWh battery has an ample range of up to 328 miles, and an 800V electrical architecture means a 10-80% rapid charge in just 18 minutes.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric

Range: Up to 280 miles
Rapid charge speed: 130kW

The new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is a pure electric replacement for the long-running Megane family hatch. Here, in the UK, it’s offered with a 60kWh battery, which gives a range of up to 280 miles. It charges at speeds of up to 130kW, which means it can be topped up from 10-80% full in 35 minutes. A really sleek and athletic-looking car, the new Megane E-Tech Electric has a beautifully finished interior, including a swish new Google-based infotainment system. A joy to drive, it’s a really competitive new family five-door to lease.

 

Tesla Model Y

Range: Up to 331 miles
Rapid charge speed: 250kW

Despite its premium pricing, the Tesla Model Y is, surprisingly, one of the most popular new cars you can lease in the UK. It was the second best-selling car in September and is in the top 10 best-selling cars overall.

The SUV crossover-style alternative to the Tesla Model 3 saloon, it comes in three different versions, including a thrilling Performance version that does 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds. But it’s the Tesla Model Y Long Range that has, well, the longest range, with up to 331 miles between charges. It’s backed up by the flawless Tesla Supercharger network too, which delivers power at speeds of up to 250kW. You won’t be disappointed.

Skoda Enyaq iV

Range: Up to 339 miles
Rapid charge speed: 135kW

The Skoda Enyaq iV is a commodious family-friendly SUV that’s offered with two battery sizes; you can lease either Enyaq iV 60 or Enyaq iV 80 variants, with an all-wheel drive Enyaq iV 80x sitting at the top of the range. The Skoda SUV can travel up to 339 miles between charges, and rapid-charge at speeds of up to 135kW. It has a good quality interior, is smooth and refined to drive – and you can even lease an Enyaq with an illuminated front grille!

 

BMW i4

Range: Up to 365 miles
Rapid charge speed: 205kW

The BMW i4 is the all-electric sister car to the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The German brand has put all the experience from its innovative BMW i3 to good use, as the i4 is a very competitive alternative to a Tesla Model 3. A 83.9kWh battery delivers a range of up to 365 miles, and it’s able to rapid-charge from 0-80% in just 34 minutes. It is an exciting car to drive too, with the core i4 eDrive 40 offering swift performance and superb handling. Look out for the i4 M50 though, which takes things to an even higher level.

Volvo EX90

The popular Volvo XC90 is to be joined next year by an all-electric new SUV range-topper, called Volvo EX90. The firm is slowly revealing details ahead of its full reveal in November, but has already confirmed every version will be equipped with an advanced Lidar system – making it well-placed to start offering autonomous self-driving functionality as and when UK road regulations catch up. Expect a range of well over 300 miles and a level of refinement and luxury that will set new standards for this popular premium car brand. BYD Atto 3

Range: 261 miles
Rapid charge speed: 88kW

BYD is another new Chinese brand coming soon to the UK. It is actually China’s best-selling electric car brand, overtaking Tesla earlier this year. The Atto 3 crossover is the launch model in the UK, a challenger to rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric. A smart-looking model with a high-tech interior, the Atto 3 has a 64.5kWh battery and an official range of up to 261 miles – more than a match for its direct rivals. Expect leasing rates to be competitive as well.
