Ten Second Review
Citroen DS3 Lease Review - This is a competitive and well balanced supermini, in what is a fiercely competitive market. From what was an astounding success in the 1950s the DS is back and has brought some modern brilliance to this classic name. If you're looking for something that's trendy and has a bit of brand value then the DS3 has it in spades. Unlike other cars in the supermini market that have no history an investment in the DS3 is buying into one of the most successful models of all time in this market.
The Citroen DS3 is one of the finest hatchbacks in the Citroen range. It is fast, economical, practical and looks great doing it all for a fairly reasonable price. Starting at around £12,500 retail value, the DS3 has a great range with plenty of choices concerning hardware and various engines available.
The starter model has a 1.4 litre petrol, which develops a low 94bhp but delivers solid performance, and comes under the magic 100 g/km of CO2 which mean tax will never be an issue. Higher models come with 1.6 litre turbocharged engines in both petrol and diesel, although the pick of these has to be the 154 bhp petrol, which reduces engine noise while still delivering performance. Around this engine is a well styled car, with a futuristic design across the hood mixing with classic hatchback style at the rear, although the awkward rear windows do throw the smooth effect just a little. Inside you’ll be in some comfort with a quality ride and smooth steering based on the C3 package, and for the size of the car you get a decent amount of legroom in back.
Unfortunately it doesn’t quite match up to competitors like the Civic, with a reasonable 285 litre boot but lacking the space given by Honda’s magic seats, you won’t fit much more than that in the back. All models come with a decent standard kit, including cruise control and electric windows, but it is well worth upgrading to the Dstyle for the air-conditioning package.
Tested in 2009, this model still holds 5 Stars with Euro NCAP, and comes with all the usual safety and security refinements you will find on a cheap hatchback today. Considering this manages to cram a fair amount into a car that won’t reasonably set you back a huge amount, it is fair to say that the Citroen DS3 is a safe bet when it comes to hot hatchbacks.
