Ten Second Review
Ford Grand Tourneo Connect Lease Review - The Grand Torurneo Connect is an interesting moulding of Fords Market-leading Transits and its similarly excellent MPV range, and it is something of a marmite combination. Starting with the styling, this has the sliding doors and easy-access practicality of a modern van, but the front end seems snub nosed and uncertain, caught between the two worlds and not fitting well into either.
This car certainly falls into a more utilitarian role than the more luxurious Ford models, such as the S-MAX or C-MAX variants, and it has the engine choices to match, with two 1.6 litre diesels and an 148bhp 1.6 Ecoboost towards the top of the range. The higher 114bhp 1.6 litre diesel is probably the best bet, nothing was ever going to make this model jump out of the gates, this does 0-60 in 14.1 seconds, but this plods along on the urban roads with ease and opens up well on the motorway, while being surprisingly quiet at the same time. The ride is enhanced by decent steering and it handles in the same manner as most large fords, nimbly and without too much body roll, although there is no denying that at 1785 kilograms this is not the easiest of cars to manoeuvre.
Inside you get a decent driving position that is only slightly hampered by large window bars, and the dash is lifted straight from a mid-range focus, with hard, easy to clean plastics adding to the practicality. All seats sold flat and you get plenty of legroom with them up, while over a metre of headroom will suit almost any passenger, leaving you with plenty of space for both luggage and passengers at your discretion, while there is great ease of access as previously mentioned. There are also shelves and cubby holes galore, excellent for a family motor and making good use of the storage space.
There is plenty of kit available, although this lessens in the lower ranges, while ford boasts of a “best in class” 5 Star Euro NCAP safety rating, that is accentuated by the stability control and plenty of airbags in order to try and keep you safe. This is a very functional minivan with plenty of uses, if you can get over the cheaper styling this makes a good everyday model.
Being hones, finding its roots in the commercial side of car/vehicle design the Ford Tourneo is a rather bullish and clunky thing to look at on first inspection. But the engineering throughout the car is what brings the real value. With a no-nonsense approach to people transportation the 7 seat Ford Grand Tourneo Connect gets families from one location to another in an efficient and comfortable manner. No need to worry about a lack of space as whether you use this vehicle as a 5 or 7 seater you'll never be hard pushed.
