Ten Second Review
Mercedes-Benz SLK Class Lease Review - With its classic folding metal roof and luxurious feel, the SLK is a great car in its own right and costs far less for what you get than some of its more extreme competitors. Starting as always under the hood, Mercedes Benz give you the choice of four petrol engines; two turbocharged 1.8’s in the low range followed up by a 3.6 litre V6 and a huge 5.5 litre 4.8. There is a diesel option, but the best must be the 3.6 litre V6 that provides acres of performance that is just lacking in the 1.8 entry level models, but isn’t as thirsty at the pumps as the 5.5 litre. This also comes with a tuned seven speed automatic gearbox that works beautifully alongside with Mercedes reliability and efficiency.
The ride comes in somewhere between the smooth and comfortable Z4 and the wild SL, with decent handling that comes with grip but less of the mouth-open power that stems from its wilder sibling. It does have more open topped refinement, with the roof open noise is well contained while the engines sound fantastic as long as you avoid the entry level models. Inside you get a spacious cabin with decent headroom and protection from the wind, and there are some in-car storage options but they don’t make up for the small size of the boot with the roof down.
This also limits access but it is instantly foldable at the touch of a button in a very stylish system. In terms of equipment you get something of a cluttered dashboard but with plenty of luxury kit, including air-con, alloy wheels, DAB digital radio with and Bluetooth, with many optional extras on hand alongside z a generous security package including deadlocks and alarm. The safety equipment is as expected on a high performance model, and includes Attention Assist to warn of fatigue, Pre-Safe to prepare the car for a crash and a pop-up bonnet to protect pedestrians. There are some flaws to the Mercedes-Benz logic with this model but pick the right option and you have an excellent motor!
