Ten Second Review
Toyota GT86 Lease Review - When you’re looking for a coupe, give the Toyota GT86 serious consideration. There’s plenty to like in any of the three GT86 2-door models from the reasonable price and 5-year/100,000 mile warranty to the GT’s comprehensive safety kit, stability, crisp handling, and fun-to-drive factor.
Don’t turn to the GT86 for a cushy ride. Go to it for its agile and precise handling and quick steering. Called “hugely fun” to drive, the GT86 offers sleek dimensions, a powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, generous standard equipment and accessories, and overall excellent value for the money.
This Toyota coupe does have a few not-quite-so-great points. The interior is disappointing, lacking the stylishly aggressive looks of some of its competitors. In performance terms, drivers claim they have to “really thrash” the engine and that the GT86 is “lazy” below 4000 rpms. Loud engine, wind, and road noise make for a noisier ride but the engine quiets down (somewhat) on the motorway.
As sports cars go, the GT86 is a comfortable ride with stiff suspension that does a pretty decent job of absorbing the bumps so prevalent on English roads. But don’t count on the GT86 to haul large loads or several passengers around. The back seat area is tiny both for people and cargo. Front passengers will find ample leg and headroom and the driver has plenty of seat and steering wheel adjustments.
The GT86 is a bit better than adequate in fuel economy and emissions but well-rated in terms of safety and reliability. Take it out for a performance run on the back roads. You’ll enjoy the ride and appreciate the overall value that Toyota offers.
