Ten Second Review
Volkswagen Golf GTI Lease Review - The GTI badge on the VW golf can really mean only one thing, this is a hot hatch. Featuring the top of the line spec, almost top of the line engine and plenty of sporting features this is definitely the drivers Golf. The engine, a 148bhp 2.0 litre diesel is faster than most of its petrol competitors and comes with that range of power that you just don’t get with those variants.
Alongside this it is smooth and relatively quiet, although it does get nicely throaty when you really put your foot down. The ride is of course fantastic in these models, they benefit from an advanced suspension system not found in the lesser models that nicely merges comfort and control to produce a car that you can bomb around in even though you’ve a few passengers.
The passengers themselves will be comfortable, with the front end enjoying sports seats while the back has a nice soft trim, with plenty of leg and elbow room to go around. You can fit three in the back, although two is perfect, and these seats will fold almost flat to increase your already reasonable bootspace should you need the additional room. Everything is geared towards performance, with sportier styling in the bodywork, seats in the middle and suspension down below. Even the extras are geared to a sportier feel, with business and family-style options such as the sat nav only available as paid-for extras, but you will get digital radio, Bluetooth, air-con and cruise control as standard alongside alloys and automatic lights.
It’s even safe and secure, with a City Emergency Brake system that automatically applies the brakes if you are about to crash when going under 19mph and a full five star NCAP rating. Marked parts, deadlocks and an alarm are fitted to ensure that this isn’t an easy target for thieves either. As aforementioned, this is a drivers machine and is great fun to nip about in, and by not reducing the economy or practicality too much Volkswagen have created a sports hatch that can manage a school run, and a fun one at that.
