Ten Second Review
Kia Rio Lease Review - The Kia Rio was dull and dated but it has morphed into an attractive, spacious, well-made small car that rivals the Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio.
The Rio is available as a 3- or 5-door car (the extra doors cost extra), and there is a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The Rio is well kitted at all but the most basic level.
For economy, look to the 1.1-litre CRDi with its extremely modest CO2 emissions of 85g/km and an amazing 88.3mpg. But while Rio’s diesel engines are economical, they aren’t punchy – especially in overtaking or pulling onto the motorway. Lovers of petrol engines will find them quieter and with a crisper, more responsive feel. The 1.25-litre model delivers 56.5mpg and 114g/km of CO2 emissions.
Around town, the Rio is agile and responsive. The suspension is firm and allows little body lean in cornering. Unfortunately, the steering is vague-feeling. Four adults should find the Rio a comfortable, quiet ride. The interior is surprisingly spacious even in rear seating. Storage space is ample but Rio sacrifices boot space for people space.
The Rio is an attractive, not flashy, eminently capable small car. It is economical to buy and operate and has one of the best warranties around (seven years). Rio may not the muscle car of your fantasies but it will serve you well as an all-round supermini.
